CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

PROLAT GOES TO THE THEATRE!

“Hedda Gabler”, the fascinating play of the great Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, is on at the Stegi Theatre of the Onassis Cultural Centre. The award winner stage director Michalis Konstantatos, Vassilis Panagiotakopoulos, who organized the play production, and the rest of the members of the theatrical team Blindspot place the action of Ibsen’s play in a glass bowl full of sand, not in the “spacious and pleasant sitting room” of the conventional stage directions. “I created a desert inside a glass bowl, because this scenic environment in a way reflects the inner life landscape of Hedda herself”, the stage director explains. “Everything inside her is dry, still and static, but we don’t know what is hidden under this sand… This is Hedda: a bourgeois woman who lost her economic background and automatically changed social class. A person trapped in the defence that she has erected in her effort to survive against the machinery of the social environment. Aren’t we all like that? We make countless ‘glass bowls’ to protect ourselves from a threatening social system and they eventually become our prison. Some people live in these prisons for ever, while some others manage to escape”. The play was sponsored by PROLAT, who also provided the sand that was a key material on stage. A happy new year to everyone and may we all find the strength to escape our own glass prisons…

ART UNITES AND LIBERATES… AND PROLAT SUPPORTS IT!

A very different CD entitled “Thiva km 102” was recently released by Puzzlemusik. The CD, which is the result of a 2-year collective effort, is an optimistic message of hope and compassion in these difficult times. The NGO AMAKA, the music group ARTéfacts ensemble, and PROLAT, a company for which corporate social responsibility is a top priority, are some of those who contributed to the achievement of the goal of this cooperation, which was the creation of bridges between penitentiaries and society. The non-governmental organization ΑΜΑΚΑ, supported by the CULTURE PROGRAMME of the European Union, held “art therapy” workshops in Thiva Women’s Prison for one year, giving prisoners the opportunity to express themselves by recording sounds of their everyday life and narrating their personal stories. ARTéfacts ensemble, a pioneering music group, forwarded these original sounds to 6 new European composers, who were inspired and created compositions for live musical instruments and live electronics. Next, they recorded them and presented them first where it all started, namely in Thiva Women’s Prison, in October 2014, and then in a special concert at the French Institute of Athens on 30 March 2015. PROLAT participated in this project as a sponsor proving its social sensitivity and its respect for human values. This very special CD, which is already available at selected record stores, will also be presented in Brussels in the future.
